College Credit Plus (CCP) Overview

Huron City Schools participates in Ohio’s College Credit Plus (CCP) program, a dual-enrollment initiative that allows eligible students in grades 7 through 12 to earn high school and college credits simultaneously.

CCP courses are tuition-free for public school students when taken through participating Ohio public colleges and universities, offering a powerful head start on post-secondary education. For a comprehensive state-level look at this initiative, review the official Ohio Department of Higher Education CCP Program Summary.

Required Action Steps for Families

To participate in the CCP program, Ohio state law requires families to complete specific counseling and administrative steps annually.

1. Complete the Mandatory Information Session

Families must participate in a formal CCP counseling and information briefing before enrolling. If you were unable to attend our live district informational meeting, please review the resources below:

2. Submit Your Intent to Participate Form

The Intent to Participate Form must be submitted to the school counseling office no later than April 1 of each school year preceding enrollment.

Note: Submitting this form does not legally commit your student to taking college courses; it simply preserves their eligibility and keeps the opportunity open for the upcoming academic year.

Take Action: Download and print the official Huron City Schools CCP Intent to Participate Form (PDF).

High School Scheduling & Support

School scheduling presentations are delivered to students directly in classrooms every February. If your student is 18 years of age or older, federal and state guidelines require them to register for the selective service to keep their state funding active. You can verify compliance via the Federal Selective Service System Registration Portal.

Campus Partner Resources

If your student is taking courses through our local university partners, specialized academic accommodations, tutoring, and accessibility resources are available directly on their physical campuses:

  • Credit Hours & Cost Guidelines

While CCP courses are tuition-free, the state of Ohio enforces a strict maximum credit limit per school year.

    • 30-Hour Credit Rule: Students are limited to a maximum of 30 college-credit hours per academic year (which includes a mathematical formula subtracting their high school course load). Exceeding this limit results in the family being financially responsible for the excess tuition costs.

    • Financial Responsibilities: Review local guidelines regarding textbook returns and potential tuition reimbursement rules on the Huron Board of Education CCP Policy Page.

  • Academic Standing & Probation Rules

Because CCP courses place permanent marks on a student's official college transcript, the state enforces strict academic safety rules:

    • CCP Probation: Triggered if a student earns a cumulative college GPA below 2.0 or withdraws from two or more courses in a single term.

    • CCP Dismissal: Occurs if a student on probation fails to raise their cumulative college GPA above 2.0 by the end of the next grading period. While dismissed, students may not enroll in college courses.

    • Appeals Process: Families have the right to appeal a dismissal status to the high school principal within 5 business days of notification.
