At Huron City Schools, we believe a strong, well-rounded curriculum is the foundation of lifelong learning. Our mission is to support students at every level—from early learners to graduating seniors—by providing rigorous, relevant, and engaging academic experiences that prepare them for the world ahead.
Our Curriculum and Instruction Department works collaboratively with educators across the district to align teaching practices, implement effective instructional strategies, and ensure all students meet and exceed academic standards. We are committed to meeting the needs of diverse learners, promoting equity, and maintaining high expectations in every classroom.

We review and develop curriculum that aligns with Ohio's Learning Standards and reflects best practices in teaching and learning. -

We provide resources, professional development, and coaching to help teachers deliver instruction that meets the needs of every student. -
Assessment & Data Use
We guide the use of student achievement data to inform instruction, measure growth, and support continuous improvement. -
Program Oversight
We support district-wide initiatives such as College Credit Plus (CCP), Advanced Placement (AP), career-technical education (CTE), and more.

At Huron City Schools, we are dedicated to supporting students who show exceptional ability in academics and cognition. Our Gifted Services provide enriched learning experiences, accelerated curriculum, and specialized support designed to help advanced learners thrive.
What to Expect
Gifted identification and services begin with a proactive approach to screening and support:- Whole-grade screening occurs annually each spring for all 2nd and 4th-grade students in the areas of Superior Cognitive Ability, Reading, and Math.
- Referral for Gifted Identification Forms may be submitted twice each year—September 1–30 and May 1–30. Identified students are offered enrichment and support services tailored to their strengths and interests.
Services & Opportunities
Our licensed Gifted Intervention Specialists provide direct services and enrichment opportunities for students identified in Reading, Math, and/or Superior Cognition in grades 3–6.Students may also benefit from:
- Advanced, accelerated, and differentiated curriculum
- Countywide academic opportunities (e.g., 8th Grade Land Use Debate)
- College Credit Plus courses through partner colleges and universities
- Advanced Placement (AP) courses at the high school level
