CCP Hours & Costs

College Credit Plus (CCP) is a dual-enrollment program that allows students to earn college and high school credits at the same time. While this program is tuition-free for public school students, the State of Ohio and Huron City Schools enforce strict rules regarding annual credit hour limits, financial responsibilities, and textbook logistics.

  • Students are permitted to earn a maximum of 30 college credit hours per academic year, and a lifetime maximum of 120 college credit hours throughout their participation in the program.

The annual 30-hour cap includes a combination of both high school courses and college courses. To calculate exactly how many college credit hours your student has available each year, you must use the state-mandated formula below:

    The Funding Formula

Multiply the number of high school credits your student is taking by 3, and subtract that total from 30.

    Available College Hours = 30 – (High School Credits) x 3

Example Calculation: If a student is enrolled in 4 high school credits, those credits count as 12 funding units (4 x 3 = 12). Subtracting 12 from 30 leaves the student with 18 available college credit hours to use for that academic year.

Note: Financial Responsibility Warning: If a student registers for credit hours that exceed their calculated annual funding cap, the family must immediately choose to either drop the excess course or pay the entire tuition cost for that specific college course directly to the university at the standard institutional rate.

  • Under Ohio law, Huron City Schools covers the cost of all required instructional textbooks and course materials for approved CCP courses. However, because these materials are purchased using public district funds, they remain the official property of the school district.

Students must follow the specific textbook acquisition paths based on where their courses are physically located:

    • Courses Taken On-Campus or Online: If a student is taking classes directly on a university campus or via an online portal, they must obtain their textbooks through their university bookstore using the institution's designated high school CCP voucher system.

    • Courses Taken at Huron High School: If the college course is being taught directly inside a Huron High School classroom by an approved instructor, the required books will be distributed to the student directly by their classroom teacher at the beginning of the semester.

    Mandatory Return Policy

All textbooks, digital access codes, and physical learning materials provided through the CCP program must be returned to the Huron High School media center immediately following the conclusion of the college semester. Families will be billed a comprehensive replacement fee for any lost, unreturned, or damaged instructional items.

  • Costs & Expenses

Under the standard enrollment track (Option B), students can participate in College Credit Plus courses at public colleges and universities at no cost for tuition, fees, or instructional books.

However, families should be aware of the following financial rules:

    • Optional Personal Expenses: Families are responsible for optional, non-instructional costs such as campus parking passes, daily transportation, or personal supplies.

    • The Course Failure & Late Drop Penalty: If a student fails a CCP course, or withdraws from a course after the university's designated no-penalty drop date, the district is billed by the college. By law, Huron City Schools will pass this cost onto the family, billing them for the full tuition amount of the course plus all associated textbook and lab fees.

    • Partner Tuition Reference Rates: For contextual planning, local partner baseline tuition rates per credit hour include BGSU Firelands (~$166.55 per credit hour) and the University of Findlay (~$41.64 per credit hour).

  • Sports & Athletic Eligibility

Student-athletes participating in the CCP program must take proactive steps to maintain their competitive playing status under state high school athletic rules.

    • Review Official State Standards: Student-athletes are strictly responsible for knowing and maintaining the full Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) Eligibility Guidelines.

    • Summer Course Restriction: Please remember that college credit hours taken during summer terms cannot be factored into your fall or winter sports eligibility tracking.

    • Mandatory Grade Reporting Rule: Because colleges do not automatically report quarterly mid-term grades to the high school, CCP athletes must manually collect their quarterly marks. You must have your college instructor complete the official district CCP Grade Eligibility Form at the end of each grading window.

    • Form Submission: Completed eligibility grading forms must be returned directly to Matthew Ayers, Activities and Athletic Director. To request a form or view office hours, contact the central Huron City Schools Athletics Department.
