CCP Transferability

Course Transferability & Higher Education Planning

One of the greatest advantages of participating in Ohio's College Credit Plus (CCP) program is the ability to earn transferable college credits while still in high school. However, how those credits transfer depends heavily on whether your student attends a public institution, a private university, or an out-of-state college.

  • By state law, college credits earned through CCP are guaranteed to transfer to any Ohio public university or community college. The state ensures this seamless transfer through specific academic credit frameworks:

    • Ohio Transfer 36 (OT36): A block of general education courses (such as English composition, introductory mathematics, and natural sciences) that are guaranteed to fulfill basic degree requirements at any public institution in the state.

    • Transfer Assurance Guides (TAGs): Specialized, pre-approved course sequences that guarantee not only that the credits transfer, but that they will apply directly toward your student's specific major requirements (e.g., matching a psychology or business track course-for-course).

    • Career-Technical Assurance Guides (CTAGs): Fulfills technical or career-based course equivalencies for specialized vocational pathways.

Take Action: To check how specific courses from BGSU Firelands or the University of Findlay transfer across institutions, search the State of Ohio Transfer Credit Mapping Portal.

  • While Ohio public universities are legally bound by statewide credit transfer agreements, private universities and institutions outside of Ohio establish their own independent transfer credit evaluations.

If your student is planning to apply to a private or out-of-state college, we highly recommend taking the following proactive steps:

    1. Contact Admissions Directly: Reach out to the admissions office or registrar at the target university and ask for their specific dual-enrollment transfer policy.

    2. Request a Transfer Credit Review: Provide the university advisor with the course names and codes from your student's CCP institution (e.g., BGSU or Findlay) to confirm if the credits will be accepted as core classes or elective hours.

    3. Utilize Independent Transfer Registries: You can research historical, crowd-sourced, and institutional transfer records across state lines via the nationwide Transferology Course Equivalency System.

  • Remember that in addition to college credit, your CCP courses must align with your remaining high school requirements to ensure you graduate on time.
