●Ohio has enacted a new law requiring all public school districts, community schools, and STEM schools
to create policies prohibiting student cell phone use during the school day.
○RULE #4 CELL PHONES/PERSONAL ELECTRONIC DEVICES:
It is necessary for students to learn how to responsibly self-regulate and manage their electronic devices. Our goal
is to model and teach all students the proper, professional, and respectful use of electronic devices in a public
and/or work setting. Cell phone/PED use is strictly prohibited during school hours. Cell phones/PED must be
placed in lockers and powered off; not on person. Students may NOT use their personal electronic devices during
instructional class time without explicit permission from the teacher. Permission will only be granted if the use of
the electronic device is for educational purposes. Students observed using a cell phone/PED, in any manner, during
1school hours will be required to immediately surrender their device to the appropriate staff member. Failure to
comply will be considered insubordination and will be subject to discipline additional to that listed below.
