CCP Probation & Dismissal Rules

CCP Probation & Dismissal Rules

Because College Credit Plus (CCP) courses place permanent marks on a student's official college transcript, the State of Ohio enforces strict academic safety rules. These rules are designed to protect a student's future college admissions eligibility and federal financial aid status.

The Academic Performance Progression

Review the four sequential stages of state-mandated academic standing below to understand how GPA deficits affect program enrollment.

  • STAGE 1: Good Academic Standing – The Baseline Status

Students maintain good standing by achieving a cumulative college Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.0 or higher across all completed College Credit Plus courses.

  • STAGE 2: CCP Probation Status – Triggered by GPA or Course Drops

A student is placed on CCP Probation if their cumulative college GPA drops below 2.0, or if they withdraw from two or more college courses within a single academic term.

  • STAGE 3: CCP Dismissal Status – Triggered by Continued GPA Deficit

If a student on probation fails to raise their cumulative college GPA to 2.0 or higher by the end of the next grading period, they are placed on CCP Dismissal. While dismissed, the student is completely barred from enrolling in new CCP courses.

  • STAGE 4: The Appeals Process – Strict 5-Day Legal Timeline

Families have the right to appeal a dismissal status to the high school principal. The appeal must be submitted in writing within 5 business days of receiving the official dismissal notice.

Course Restrictions & Academic Rules
While a student is on CCP Probation, strict state enrollment limits apply. The table below outlines what a student is permitted to do versus what is restricted:

Permitted Actions on Probation Prohibited Actions on Probation
Enrolling in exactly one college course (maximum of 3 credit hours) for the term. Registering for more than 3 college credit hours or multiple classes.
Taking courses in an academic subject where the student has maintained a passing grade. Taking a course in the same subject area where the student previously earned a D, F, or failing mark.
Continuing regular high school courses to maintain full-time enrollment status. Participating in CCP courses if a written appeal is denied during a dismissal status.

Regaining Full Eligibility

A student on CCP Dismissal can lift their suspension and re-enroll in the program after one full academic term has passed. To safely return to the program, the student must work with the high school counseling department to build an academic remediation plan.
